2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a distinct vision.
The president stated that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a renewed approach, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
The news mirrors a similar move taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the full text from the president's announcement:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a update, I stated the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most driven and creative creators we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to continue.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game demo was informative. It affirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had refinements needed. It revealed the need for a clearer brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the feedback to mind and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed direction - one that’s ready to fulfill its ambition to our audience.
The trust in this project increases every day. To further the incredible advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the new Studio Head of the team. After several months of conversations, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.
His guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is extensive, having devoted the recent years producing and leading some of the most recognizable series in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in receiving him in the coming days. We are all excited to persist observing the development of the game in the months to follow.
David

Project Ethos was unveiled in October 2024 alongside a early access event. Initially, 31st Union described the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative advancement on the category."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the description states. "Challenge the rivals with new abilities, challenges, and tests that change every match. Do you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Alternatively aim high, risk it all, and trust your squad can achieve the highest spot? The choice is yours."
The game does not have an confirmed release date or platforms, but enthusiasts can expect additional details as production progresses.
